„Mozilla Community of Bosnia and Herzegovina“ is a non-governmental, non-profit organization founded by Kerim Kalamujić. Its goals are to promote free and open source Mozilla software, and to fight against the IT illiteracy in Bosnian-Herzegovinian society. Our community exists since 2007, and we finished legal registration in May 2009.
The story begins when Kerim with few friends from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University of Sarajevo decides to get involved with Mozilla's l10n and QA projects. In the beginning all activities were coordinated mostly via email and skype. We also gathered at coffee meetups to talk about ideas.
As time was passing by, we felt we should improve our internal „infrastructure“, so we started developing our own tiny groupware software. We used it for *real-time* task management, file sharing etc. It was a small, but cute system whose development was mostly considered to be a programming challenge. In the meantime we got in touch with other Mozilla volunteers from all around the world, so we wanted to grow our community. That's when we decided to legally register our community as an NGO. We finished that task in May 2009.
At the end of April we hosted our French guests who came to visit us as part of their MECT event (Mozilla European Community Tour). We were excited with the prosperity of their visit. At first, they planned to spend four days in Sarajevo. Unfortunately, they spent only two days in Sarajevo due to problems they had with their car in Montenegro. Still, it was great experience for us and a huge boost for our enthusiasm.
In October 2009, MozCamp Europe was held in Prague, Czech Republic. We were honoured to be part of it. It was a great opportunity to meet old friends and to meet new ones. We were proud to come from a country where Firefox is web browser no1. Hopefully next year we shall have more countries like that. MozCamp Europe 09 was a superb event, a great experience and a huge inspiration for us.
In the end, what else to say but we are proud to be a part of global Mozilla community and to be the first legally registered Mozilla community in the world.
